Your gas meter shows the number of cubic feet of natural gas that pass through it. Follow the instructions below or click here for the printer friendly version of the instructions.
Reading your gas meter is like reading a clock. Most meters have two sets of dials. The set marked "two feet" and "half foot" is there for test purposes and doesn't affect your bill. The other set of three or four dials measures the gas you use.
Read the dials from right to left and write down the number over which the dial hand has just passed.

If a hand is directly on a number, you may be uncertain whether to write down that number or the next number.

If the hand on the right has passed 0, write down the number the hand on the left is pointing to. In this case, it is a 7. |
If the hand on the right has not passed 0, write down the next lowest number. In this case, it is a 6. |
