Customer Assistance Programs

Third-Party Notification
You may designate a person or an agency for us to contact on behalf of an account holder before disconnecting service for non-payment. Contact us via email or call 1-800-292-4008 to speak with an Alagasco representative to name the person or agency for third party notification.

LIHEAP
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is a federal program that provides financial assistance to help low-income individuals pay their energy bills. In Alabama, LIHEAP is administered by several community resource agencies and is sponsored by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. To apply for LIHEAP assistance or to learn more about the program, contact a community resource agency in your area.

Customer Charge Waiver
Customers who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will not be billed a monthly customer charge. Please call 1-800-292-4008 and a representative will give you instructions on how to apply for this program.
 
Safety and Efficiency Inspections
Alagasco customers who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can get the gas heating equipment in their homes inspected free of charge.

To schedule a free inspection, customers can call their local Alagasco Service Center. The telephone number is listed in the top right corner of the gas bill.

  • Free inspections are available June 1-August 31.
  • Alagasco’s service personnel will make any necessary repairs.
  • Labor is free if the work is done within one hour.
  • The cost of parts may be charged to a customer’s bill.

Third-Party Referrals
If you need help beyond an Individual Payment Plan, we can provide the names of agencies with programs that may be able to help you pay your gas bill.

Services for Hearing Impaired
The Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) gives speech and hearing impaired customers the ability to communicate with us around the clock. If you need to contact us through this device, call toll free 1-800-548-2547 from anywhere in Alabama.

Services for Visually Impaired
We offer free services upon request for our customers who are visually impaired. These services include:

  • large-print bill
  • Braille bill
