Pipeline Safety

Pipelines connect our energy to you in the safest way possible.

The National Transportation Safety Board agrees, pipelines are one of the safest ways to transport the natural gas that warms homes and fuels businesses. And, delivering this energy safely means laying and maintaining underground pipelines. When one of these lines intersects a street, highway or railway, you’ll find a marker that shows:

  • The general location of the pipeline
  • The product that pipeline is transporting
  • Who operates the pipeline
  • The operator’s emergency phone number

While problems with pipelines are incredibly rare, leaks can happen. If you have a pipeline on your land and notice any of the following, call 911 and your local authorities will make sure everyone is safe.

  • A dense fog, mist or white cloud in one area of your land
  • Discolored vegetation
  • Bubbling water
  • Blowing dust
  • A distinctive smell, similar to rotten eggs
  • Hissing, whistling or roaring

If you notice these signs:

  • Don’t touch, breathe or make contact with the leak
  • Don’t light a match, start an engine, turn light switches on or off, use a cell or home phone or do anything to create a spark
  • Don’t attempt to extinguish a fire
  • Don’t attempt to operate valves

We’ll repair any leaks immediately, making sure the area is safe and ready for your return.
